With the sudden drop in temperature and a long weekend looming, this
seems like the perfect opportunity to go into hibernation mode. Think warm fluffy duvets, a roaring fire,
movies and cuddles. And what winter hibernation
would be complete without a steaming cup of hot chocolate?
Why not get the kids involved and make your own, home-made hot chocolate?
It’s fun and cheaper than buying it from the shop.

Hot Cocoa
Mix Recipe from Little Birdie Secrets
10 cups dry milk powder
4 3/4 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
1 3/4 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
1 3/4 cups powdered non-dairy creamer
Mix all
ingredients in a bowl. Store in a jar or
airtight container. Yields 15 cups of
dry mix.
To make the
cocoa, stir 3 heaped Tablespoons of mix into 3/4 cup of hot water or milk.
If you are
feeling particularly decadent, top it off with whipped cream!
Makes 5 3/4 cups dry mix
3 1/2 cups
sugar
2 1/4 cups cocoa
1 tablespoon table salt
Whole milk for serving
2 1/4 cups cocoa
1 tablespoon table salt
Whole milk for serving
Directions
- In a large bowl, combine sugar, cocoa, and salt, and whisk to combine well. Store the mixture in an airtight container.
- For individual servings, pour 1 cup whole milk into a microwave-safe mug, and microwave on high just until hot. Add 2 tablespoons of cocoa mix, and stir to dissolve. For a larger batch of cocoa, warm the milk in a saucepan set over medium-low heat, taking care not to let the milk boil; as it warms, stir in 2 tablespoons of mix for each cup of milk.
Enjoy!
