A Winter warmer!

With the sudden drop in temperature and a long weekend looming, this seems like the perfect opportunity to go into hibernation mode.  Think warm fluffy duvets, a roaring fire, movies and cuddles.  And what winter hibernation would be complete without a steaming cup of hot chocolate?

Why not get the kids involved and make your own, home-made hot chocolate? It’s fun and cheaper than buying it from the shop.

Try one of these delicious recipes……

Hot Cocoa Mix Recipe from Little Birdie Secrets

10 cups dry milk powder
4 3/4 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
1 3/4 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
1 3/4 cups powdered non-dairy creamer

Mix all ingredients in a bowl.  Store in a jar or airtight container.  Yields 15 cups of dry mix.
To make the cocoa, stir 3 heaped Tablespoons of mix into 3/4 cup of hot water or milk.
If you are feeling particularly decadent, top it off with whipped cream!

Martha’s Hot Chocolate mix
Makes 5 3/4 cups dry mix

3 1/2 cups sugar
2 1/4 cups cocoa
1 tablespoon table salt
Whole milk for serving

Directions
  1. In a large bowl, combine sugar, cocoa, and salt, and whisk to combine well. Store the mixture in an airtight container.
  2. For individual servings, pour 1 cup whole milk into a microwave-safe mug, and microwave on high just until hot. Add 2 tablespoons of cocoa mix, and stir to dissolve. For a larger batch of cocoa, warm the milk in a saucepan set over medium-low heat, taking care not to let the milk boil; as it warms, stir in 2 tablespoons of mix for each cup of milk.

Enjoy!
